What to look for

• Back length first: the sweater should reach close to the base of the tail – measure from the collar to the tail.
• Stretchy knits work better than stiff ones: they follow the long body without pulling on the chest.
• Leg openings sit high on short front legs; check they don't pull the sweater back when your Doxie walks.
• For boys, choose a belly cut that stops before the sheath so the sweater stays clean and dry.
• Dachshund bellies are close to the ground – a sweater with belly coverage keeps the chill off on cold floors and walks.

How to measure your Dachshund

Measure the back from the base of the neck to the base of the tail, then the chest at its deepest point behind the front legs and add about 2 inches. Pick the size closest to the back length without going over by more than an inch, and make sure the chest still has room.
